Bio

Artist Statement

“I am a visual artist that specializes in painting and drawing. I like to capture the

human form and its weight as well as more spiritually charged themes surrounding the souls’ expression though the body and my art. There is something very spiritual about creating art that I respect thoroughly; when I create, I am depositing a piece of myself into my work. As a woman of color, I often depict other women of color and even self-portraits, all as a way of seeing myself in art and seeking representation and connection. Painting and drawing are expressive mediums that allow me to display my humanity in my pieces. Marks I make as part of my projects are to be seen and pointed out because they are my physical impression on my work. What initiates my creative process can be an array of things, to me, there is meaning in everything. Songs inspire me, I can visualize people and compositions while listening to my favorite songs, my lived experiences, my family, and the connection I have to them inspire me to create art expressing those bonds, deep love, and understanding. I am a deeply emotional person, and I carry this into my work through my process and the imagery I use. I want my audience to be able to share a moment with my art, whether there is a subject/figure or not, I want for my work to be relatable in an unconventional way.

My goal for my work is to share emotions and create connections between myself and the viewer. My art is my way of vying for understanding and connection with people that have had similar experiences and feelings towards the content I create.”
